LOCALLY GROWN.
DOES IT MATTER?
We think it more than matters. Hear us out.
After picking, fruits and vegetables continue to breathe. This process, called respiration, breaks down stored organic materials, such as carbohydrates, proteins and fats, and leads to loss of food value, nutrients and flavour.
So the longer produce breathes before it is consumed, say while travelling long distances and sitting long hours in dispatch centres, the less nutrients and flavour, it retains. Simple as that!
There’s another reason why locally grown matters. Produce having to travel long distances before it’s made available for consumers is picked before reaching its peak maturity, by that we mean its full nutritious potential.
So let’s recap. Premature harvesting, longer travel distances, longer waiting times before consumption, and you can almost be certain to end up with a lesser nutrient, lesser flavour fruit or vegetable, on your plate.
This is why locally-grown produce is the core of our mission. This is why we made it a pledge to carefully curate over 60 varieties of locally-grown perfectly ripened produce, and have them available for you Farm-To-Shelf within 24 hours of harvesting. When it comes to full flavour full nutrients produce, if you can’t grow it, buy it from a local grower.
